The Light When Demonstrating Truth, 2019, Acrylic on Birchwood Panel, 30”

“The constant repetition of falsehood is more convincing than the demonstration of the truth.”, this quote is from The Artist’s Reality: Philosophies of Art by Mark Rothko. This is one of the most influential art philosophy resources for my practice and this is one of the many quotes that often stick with me. I wanted to create slight light shimmers in a monochromatic world. These slimmers of light represent how telling the truth in the most difficult circumstances can make a difference.

Describe your artistic style in three words.
Colorful, minimal, and insightful

What's inspiring you right now?
Right now I am researching and beginning to interrogate memories and their veracity.

What do you do when you're feeling uninspired?
I’m reading. Consuming information and finding subjects and ideas that are foreign to me is a daily journey. I take those subjects and ideas and explore through art making.

Tell us something unique about your process.
I write and read, a lot. So much so, that my sketches are sometimes just writings of what I can see in my head. I love words because they are abstractions. Abstractions of our emotions and thoughts and I enjoy dissecting their visual identities.

What advice do you have for other artists?
Create and never be afraid of the canvas or any materials. Try out different ideas, don’t be afraid to abandon what doesn't work for you, and always stay true to what feels right.

An end to over remembrance, 2020, Ferro Prussiate, Acrylic, Gold Leaf, on Birchwood Panel, 12"

For a secret that no one knows but you, is the most powerful secret there can ever be." - American Gods, 2018, Acrylic and 21k Gold Leaf on Birch Wood Panel, 24”

Avec le Bois, 2020, Acrylic and Silver Leaf on Birchwood Panel, 14”

I was given a beautiful piano and violin composition and was asked to create a piece. I began to think about how this painting and the instruments would tie into each other. “Avec le bois” (with the wood) is a Violin related term. The musician will strike the strings with the wood of the bow instead of the hair. Wood ties into the support I choose to paint on, the piano is comprised of a wood soundboard, and traditionally the violin is comprised of wood.

Converging of Skies, 2020, Acrylic and Copper Leaf on Birchwood Panel, 14”

Collector asked for, “Something Tranquil”. I find tranquility in the sky. So, I attempted a recreation of one of God’s many paintings. The dotted incomplete circle represents how fleeting true tranquility is and the time we spend searching for it. Never fully reaching the height of peak tranquility.

The Pursuit of Equality, 2018, Rust and Acrylic on Birchwood Panel, 24”

The rust represents the black and brown lives. The copper, gold, and bronze lines represent the reach and determination we have, to attain equality and a better life. The right, white side of the panel, represents the majority. The white, flesh tone, and gray lines represent their upward movement and the lines that cross over the others, represent the lengths they will take to protect their status, even at the expense of themselves.

A Study In Geometry, 2020, Acrylic in Birchwood Pane, 14”

Serene, 2020, Acrylic, Copper Leaf, and Gold Leaf on Birchwood Panel, 14”

I made this in Quarantine in the search for some serenity.

A Spotted and Intermittent Love, 2019, Acrylic and Resin on Birch Wood Panel, 24”

This piece represents relationships or connections that can’t seem to find solid footing. Connections are missed no matter how many different approaches are tried.

A Cleansing, 2020, Acrylic and Resin on Birch Wood Panel, 30”

A minimalist form of a wave. This piece is representative of the times we let in love and allow for a clearing out of old wounds

Aimée Everett is interested in exploring and asking the question, What lingers in the silences we hold between each spoken word? Everett examines these silences, the ones that have been handed down generation after generation and the ones acquired maneuvering through the world, by employing expressive minimalism as the vehicle.
