Federico Archuleta
Adiós, Amén, Hasta Luego

October 24, 2020 – January 3, 2021

For almost two decades, Federico Archuleta has been a part of Austin’s landscape. More than likely you’ve interacted with his art while dining, shopping, walking, and enjoying the city of Austin. Archuleta has certainly contributed to our city's aesthetic, and still does.

His continued presence in the East Austin Studio Tour, community events, and the walls of local businesses has infused his art and musical influences throughout the city. Federico’s poignant analyses of our times are clear, colorful, and often filled with humor. He communicates with Austin like no one else, and we’re grateful for the continued conversation.

For the Austin Studio Tour 2020, and accompanying Adiós, Amén, Hasta Luego, Big Medium featured a self-guided tour of Federico Archuleta’s murals.

Knock knock,
Who’s there?
2020!
2020 who?
Twenty-twenty-twenty four hours ago- a-ho... I want to be sedated!

The Chinese have a saying, May you live in interesting times. Mexicans have a saying too, ¡ya no chingues, cabron!

This year has been tough on the creative arts, and industries that accompany it. Movie theaters are closed, film production has stopped, musicians miss playing to live audiences, museums and galleries have limited hours, and topless dancers can’t make rent!

And yet, in spite of these unprecedented times, one type of artist has thrived, one type of creative has flourished, and this painter has kept the torch of hope alive and burning: the graffiti artist!!!

In fact, these tumultuous times serve the graffitero well, for it makes those unable to go in a gallery or museum thirst more for their work while making the aerosol artist hunger to paint more, for after all, what better way to camouflage oneself among the masses when all must wear masks in public!

We have witnessed many graffiti muralists heed the call and express not only themselves but the feelings and frustrations of the people.

Therefore, it is in this spirit that El Pinche Fe De Rico presents Adiós, Amén, Hasta Luego, a gallery exhibition showcasing old and new work via canvas paintings, objects, and the stencils themselves, allowing you to see and appreciate them as works of art in their own right.
