WHO IS BIG MEDIUM?

Big Medium is an Austin-based non-profit organization dedicated to supporting visual arts and artists in Texas.  We’re the people who bring you the East Austin Studio Tour, the Texas Biennial, and now the West Austin Studio Tour.  We also exhibit innovative gallery programming throughout the year in the Big Medium Gallery and Project Space, provide affordable studio space to artists, and partner with various other arts organizations in Texas to help foster the arts in Texas.

VISITING BIG MEDIUM

The Gallery and Project Space are open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 12 – 4pm, and by appointment.  The office is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 – 5pm, but it’s best to give us a heads up if you want to come by just in case we’re all out to lunch at the same time, or elsewhere strategizing brilliant projects. Take a look at the Gallery and Project Space pages to see what show we have up, and please note that between each show, the Gallery and Project Space are closed while we de-install and prepare for the next exhibition.

Q: I’m interested in participating in WEST. How do I do that?
A: We’re taking submissions now and would love to hear from you! Apply here.

Q: I’m interested in advertising in the WEST catalog, which I know will be a beautiful thing to behold. How do I do that?

Q: How do I find out more information about WEST?
A: Our WEST site is full of more information about WEST than you may have thought possible. Check out the WEST site to answer all your questions and more. If you’re still left in the dark with interesting and unique questions, fire away.

Q: I’m interested in participating in the East Austin Studio Tour. How do I do that?
A: We’ll open up our call to artists in late summer. We’ll post the dates on the site and facebook in the near future, so stay tuned.

Q: Do you have any available studios right now?
A: Any and all available studios will be posted on the Studios/Artists page.

Q: When will you start taking artist submissions for the 2013 Texas Biennial?
A: Soon! We’ll open the call in April 2012. We’ll post information about how to apply on our site and on facebook, so stay tuned.

Q: Are you open to proposals for the Gallery and Project Space?
A: Absolutely! If you have a mesmerizing installation concept you’d like to pitch to us, please send us images and a statement about your work here.

Q: I’d love to volunteer. What opportunities do you have available?
A: We love our volunteers! We have ongoing volunteer opportunities at Big Medium, as well as for EAST, WEST, the Texas Biennial, and more!  Volunteering with Big Medium is a great way to support and get plugged in to the art community. Please contact us here to get involved.
